Function:
The C12-4 is used to provide 12V power for trailer lighting without overloading the towing vehicle lighting circuits. It is especially suitable for modern vehicles with computer lighting control units that report lighting faults.
Connections:
The C12-4 has 10 wires, to be connected as shown below:
- Violet wire: +12V battery supply.
- White wire: Connect to vehicle earth.
Input wires (with violet wire) are connected to towing vehicle lighting circuits:
BROWN: Tail lights.
RED: Brake lights.
YELLOW: Left indicator.
GREEN: Right indicator.
Output wires (with white wire) are connected to trailer lighting circuits:
BROWN: Tail lights.
RED: Brake lights.
YELLOW: Left indicator.
GREEN: Right indicator.
Ratings
The input wires draw approx 40mA from the towing vehicle lighting circuits. The output circuits (to the trailer) are rated at 10A max. The total output rating of all trailer lighting circuits combined is 20A.
Precautions
It is recommended that the VIOLET 12V supply wire have a 20A fuse installed, this fuse is not supplied. This should not be replaced with a fuse of higher rating. The internal electronics are potted in silicone elastomer to prevent moisture ingress, but the unit should be protected from the direct blast of pressure cleaning.
